This district was carved from Kalahandi in 1993; the parts of Kalahandi the Order names, the Thuamul Rampur and Lanjigarh blocks, stayed in Kalahandi. C.O. 109 fixes its area by reference to territorial divisions as existing at 31 December 1977, and a district drawn later does not change the ground the Order scheduled. No part of the ground the Order scheduled passed to this district, so no part of it is a Scheduled Area under that Order. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj's list of notified Fifth Schedule Areas does not name it either.
